Coles Phillips' Berkshire Stocking-Art Deco Ad


9 pm: I chose this art deco ad from the 1920s because I loved the flow of the lines and the feminie figure, blending graphic design with realistic shading.


10pm...Just getting started! Here's what I have half way through the black blocks using pen tool primarily:


2am...Whew! Done for the night, but a lot accomplished:


I used a combination of shapes and pen tools for the image, and a combo of the text tool and pen manipulation for the writing. The original font was Century Gothic, but I heavily edited each letter to more closely resemble the text in the ad.


10pm...I've been working on the body and dress of the woman. I've used shapes to give the basic shape, join them in pathfinder, and then refine it with a pen tool.




12am...Done for the night. Not a huge fan of the dress, but the shapes are good. If anyone has any idea how to do more realistic shading in Illustrator, I'd appreciate the feedback. Here it is so far:
