CocoRosie
CocoRosie is a musical group formed in 2003 by sisters Bianca "Coco" and Sierra "Rosie" Casady. The sisters were born and raised in the United States, but formed the band in Paris after meeting for the first time in years. Their music has been called "freak folk", and incorporates elements of pop, blues, opera, electronica, and hip hop.

I love their music, dark themed lyrics, weird style and use of things like children’s toys as instruments. however, I’m not a big fan of their album covers. I think I would personally interpret their music in a different visual language.

——————

My inspiration for this album comes after listening to their new and old stuff.. reading about the band and watching their music videos.

below are a few screenshots from their music video "After The Afterlife" from the new album

I particularly liked the underwater scenes.. and I would like to base my illustration in an underwater imaginary  world. Which I think work very well with the lyrics, and name of the album.

Keywords to describe my illustration scene: deep, dark, dead, questionable, imaginary and bizarre.

I'm still researching reference images for inspiration but below is what I have so far:

I like how the light is passing through the water in these images.. this could be a nice detail to texture and play with. I also like how things can be swimming or floating in the background.. rocks, dead fish,  a message in a bottle, children's toys or a creepy doll maybe?

I'm also thinking of not limiting myself to blue shades.. but something different.. like shades of orange/red.. that could set the scene mood to be more warm. or shades of black.. not sure yet. but I want the album art to be interepreted in different ways.. is this sunset? or is it hell? for example :)

I'm looking foward to see how this turns out in the end.
comments and feedback are welcome :)
