Cocktails & Calligraphy

Cocktails & Calligraphy - student project

I couldn't wait to take Molly's class. This is the first project I did for the class. I am teaching an upcoming calligraphy class and wanted to design the perfect logo to catch students' eyes.

I began with my pencil sketch.

It took quite a few sketches, but when this combination flowed, I knew it was THE ONE. I was instantly in love with the way the works played off of each other.

The next step was inking my design. I used Sumi Ink and a Blue Pumpkin nib.

I don't have a light box so I used transfer paper to ink my design. This still scans wonderfully. The ampersand didn't look write on my first try so I re-inked it.

The final product is something I am immensely proud of!

I am using the logo on many different printed products for my class. I have gotten a great response so far. The class definitely made a huge difference in how I go about converting my calligraphy into a digital file. I love the way the integrity of the calligraphy is maintained through Molly's method!
