Cock A Doodle Doo

Growing up on a farm, you experience the sprectrum of extreme sound. More often than not it can be eerily quiet, but there are times when things get really LOUD. I've chosen to portray the loudness that can break the early morning silence by illustrating a rooster. A rooster is possibly the most annoying animal on the planet. They're mean, loud and they strut around like they own the place.

One of the things that immediately comes to mind when I think of roosters is Kellogg's cereal, so I've decided to model this illustration off of vintage Kellogg's adverisements. Mix that with some mid century illustration by the likes of Mary Blair for some more inspiration, and you have the beginnings of a piece of art that will be as trendy as everything else out there! :)

I've always done a little sketching when I start a project, but I've never really delved deeply into it. I'm giving it a shot on this project to see how it works for me. I love the idea of making word lists. That is already helping a lot. Here's some beginnings of my sketching.

Just playing around with this rooster, and trying to get the textures and color looking good. He kinda has some 80's metal hair goin' on.

Working on some color block layout, and trying to come up with more farm elements. Keeping the colors looking uniform is becoming a harder task.
