Class Project: Coloring a Pattern 3 Ways

Class Project: Coloring a Pattern 3 Ways - student project

Hello everyone!

I'm Anne and I live in Mill Valley which is a beautiful town just north of San Francisco. After a 30 year career climbing the corporate ladder and achieving "success" at the executive level, I decided it was time for ME.

I have collected art supplies my entire life (lots hidden away in the basement! LOL) and am finally using them! My tag line on my website is "It's Never Too Late to Create!". And I'm a perfect example of that.

I took my first online art class in January of 2016 and discovered Surface Pattern Design and the AMAZING Bonnie Christine in January of this year. I am now completely obsessed with learning everything there is to know about pattern design.

Here is my pattern colored in three different ways. I draw my elements and motifs by hand using a micron 0.50 mm ink pen. I scan them into illustrator and design my patterns from there.

For this assignment, my elements and motifs were inspired by flowers from a bouquet I received from friends. The inspiration for my color palettes came from a favorite tea saucer, a watercolor painting, and a bouquet of flowers. I have attached each color palette below along with the photograph that inspired it.

This was REALLY FUN and I hope you like what I've designed!
