City scene pattern

I loved this class! I have been wanting to dabble in patterns for a while, so I really got into this.

I've been obsessed with city scenes laterly, so I decided to go in that direction. I love a good midcentury-inspired scene, sketchy lines and "misregistered" color blocks.

First I sketched out a few elements, then redrew them using my Wacom Intuos in Illustrator

Then I went about arranging them and applying some initial color. I tend to be drawn to the pink/blue/yellow color scheme and gray as a neutral.

I really liked the center-first approach and felt a lot less pressure to develop the pattern in this way. Before, I felt like I had to sketch out a fully realized pattern, so it was refreshing to learn I could draw my elements and then put them together more organically.

After testing it out a few times, I ended up moving around some elements. Then I did some final coloring.

I really love the final result and can't wait to do more!
