Cicada House at Verde Camp

Cicada House at Verde Camp - student project

I want to make a cool piece to put into the house this piece is inspired by. I thought the subject matter lent itself to some interesting outcomes.

Backstory. My wife and I own and operate a grouping of small, fully furnished, houses here in the South Congress area of Austin, Texas. We call it Verde Camp because they're eco-friendly, and all clustered together on one lot, and we painted them all green. ;) It's a great little community of folks that come and stay with us from around the world.

Each of the houses are 500 sq. feet (except one) and are from the 1930's. It's taken us six years to slowly remodel each of them individually, but we completed the 6th one about a year ago, and it's one of my favorites. We call it the Cicada House because the day we started, my son and I found a Cicada shell attached to one of the boards on the outside of the house. I've been meaning to do something to honor this house for a year, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

May 23, 2013 - Did some sketches tonight. Curious if any of these feel right. I was excited to do a big bug shape as the shape .. but it feels off somehow.
