So I've been wanting to draw one of my favorite characters (Damian) playing the violin for a long time and have been very hesitant about attempting it. But I decided to finally do it with this project and I am happy to say it turned out well.
I totally forgot to save sketches of my process but thankfully I posted some stories on Instagram about my progress:
I actually used to do gesture drawings before I started this project but since I entered college I had totally dropped the habit I had formed in high school to do a gesture drawing as a warm-up before drawing.
So I was a bit frustrated with my work but also found it eventually made me more confident in my lines and helped me adjust my pose without being too afraid of ruining the pose.
I did gesture drawings every day I would work on my character illustration:
To me personally, I found it helpful to start building the silhouette of the pose I would be putting my character in first and then sketching on top of it:
And then finally I started working on lineart:
I don't have stories on the rest of the project but I do have the mood board I used for this project:
It includes references from google, youtube, Pinterest as well as color palettes from Adobe color.
Thanks to this class I feel like I've gained so much more confidence in drawing character illustrations and I am to see how much more I'll improve with more practice.
Shameless Self Promo, but here's a link to my Instagram.
