Challenge World Wildlife Day - Tigers

I've chosen to do an illustration about tigers for National Wildlife Day. In the early 1900's there were about 100,000 wild tigers in the world. Now there are only about 3,200 wild tigers left.

Some fun facts about tigers:

There are fossils found that date tigers back 2 million years.

A Bengal Tiger's roar can be heard 3 km away.

All tigers have a unique stripe pattern. Like fingerprints there are no two that are alike.

I started sketching some tigers from reference. Trying to simplify the lines, while staying true to the tiger's characteristics.

Getting my sketch ready...

And here is my final. I had planned to to a mash up of all three facts, but I quite liked the simplicity of the two identical tigers with unique stripes, so I decided to go with that. I'm not super happy with the typography, and might go back to playing with that, but right now it's late and the assignment is due tomorrow so I'll just have to let it go =) I hope you like it!
