A friend of mine is getting married and had asked me to design her wedding invites. At the time I was moving and knew I wouldn’t have time to do them but I thought it be a fun project to revisit at a later time. Funny enough a few days ago I saw Bonnie’s Card Challenge and thought I try and design her wedding invite just for fun. This invite is for a destination wedding. I know the bride wanted a spring wedding and wanted to use lots of greenery. I took a few photographs of her dress and decided to illustrate the lace flowers and incorporate them into their invite. The script font looked somewhat similar to my friends initial signature. This was very fun to do thank you for the challenge Bonnie.
SN_Workshop 5: Design your Perfect Portfolio
Workshop 5 / Phase 5
As far as industries go, I think I will be targeting Wall coverings, Fabrics, Stationary and Technology. Again want to spend time figuring out my style so I can better determine which companies I would like to work with.
Workshop 5 / Phase 4
I've decided to go as far as just having the layout of my portfolio, but will be spending the next few months defining my style and brand. This was an amazing process and I'm eternally grateful that I was able to follow along and create my first set of patterns.
Workshop 5 / Phase 3
I have been working on my portfolio but I do feel a little stuck because I only have one collection and still feel like my style is not consistent or developed. I have absolutely loved these workshops and will continue your advice Bonnie on creating patterns for a few months and focusing on honing in my style. Here is what I have so far. Any feedback will be appreciated.
Workshop 5 / Phase 2
Workshop 4 / Phase 5 (thought I never get here)
My apologies for the delay in response. I get to Amsterdam and my flatmate suggest a trip to Bulgaria. As it was only 99 euros for 8 days (included airfare, food, and hotel) we thought why not. I forgot my sim pin and had no mobile or wifi connection. On the plus side I was present and got some great photography and inspiration for my next pattern. Bonnie thank you so much for these workshops and my sincerest apologies for the late posts. I have learned so much and can see how my work has evolved.
Workshop 4 / Phase 4

Workshop 4 / Phase 3
Hi All -
Finally settled in to my new apartment in Netherlands. Buckled down today to work on the name color palette, editing a few of the patterns and adding a few new ones to round it all out. The name woke is how I have felt since I started pursing surface pattern design. I feel awake and connected. Bonnie thank you for these workshops I have learned so much and I apologize profusely for all the late entry. Would love any feedback you have.
Workshop 4 / Phase 2
Hi Bonnie, below is my collection. I feel, I need to add a smaller print. I'm going to use some of the watercolors I created for workshop 3/Phase 4. Any pointers or advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Workshop 3 / Phase 5
My sincerest apologies for posting the final patterns. I got stuck and decided to step away. Once I finished packing and shipping my belongings to Netherlands, the pattern became clear to me and I was able to finalize it. I call this pattern CAS (cactus and solders).
Workshop 3 / Phase 4
Workshop 3 / Phase 3
My apologies on the late post, was having a rough time with this one. I know it will come together, I just have to let it flow. Below are my preliminary designs. Can't wait till we start Phase 4.
Workshop 3 / Phase 2
Looking forward to this workshop. I'm using pictures from my recent trip to New Orleans. I will be working with images, sketches and a tiny bit of watercolor.
Phase 6 Complete
I have finally caught up. Below is Mimi's Booming Garden.
Yay Snow Day in NYC. I can spend all day tomorrow working on the last phase.
Below are my watercolor floral motifs. This was so much fun I can't wait till start Phase 6.
Phase 5 Complete:
Hi All -
I was a little anxious about waterpainting, but once I traced the images (using window as a lightbox) I stopped thinking and just started painting. The first one is imperfectly perfect, I still hadn't gotten a hang of color/water ratio. The cover image are the blot stains from bleeding the brushes, it looks like an abstract garden. Bonnie thank you so much for this workshop its definitely helping me push outside of my comfort zone and find a peace and serenity. Surface Pattern Designing is bringing so much joy.
Phase 4 Complete.
Hi All -
Still playing catch up. I just completed Phase 3. Grouped the motifs by color. I may need to go in and widen the lines between some of the flowers. I've also included a mood board with the pictures I took.
Hi All -
My apologies, I'm a little behind, playing catch up. Thought I be able to go on vacation and also work but was completely overtaken by the beauty of New Orleans. I spent all day narrowing down my pictures (definitely was not easy, took 800 images), but Phase Two is complete.
Below is my inspiration board. It's a New Orleans vibe, my first time there and I got to experience the carnival, the colors, the beautiful flowers and a city with so much history, music and life.
REPEATING MOTIF PATTERNS:
REVISED MOTIFS TO INCLUDE FLOWERS:
I decided to resketch the flowers. Originally I thought they looked hideous and deleted them but after watching videos 18 - 21 (not required), I just had to try. Bonnie, thank you for inspiring me.
For my board/inspiration, I decided to use pictures I had taken plus the one that was taken of me outdoors. I was able to sketch a few things and pull of few images to draw from.
