Canamer Stables

I chose for this project to use my riding instructor's barn as the client for this logotype.

Client: The business is a dressage, hunters, and jumpers training facility where she trains horses and gives lessons to riders. The owner is Canadian transplant to the Southern US and chose to name her business Canamer Stables which is a portmanteau of Canadian and American.

Research

With the research I found some really interesting stuff. My initial thought was to do script for at least 'Canamer' and maybe 'Stables' as well if it works and. I also initially thought I would do something in a tighter script style like roundhand, as things in the equestrian world always underline elegance and sophistication, but the more I looked at lettering examples the more I found myself wanting to see if something different like brush lettering would work and see if it would help the logo stand out. I did a quick Google search and found a whole lot of the same so I'd like to see if there's some sort of edge I can bring to the logo.

I love the feeling of the letters a, c, and k.

I fell in love with this old milk can.

I also went looking for signage that was hand painted in town. There were a few, but this one was the most interesting. I just found another sign while driving by it, but didn't have time to photograph it, so I'm going to check that out this weekend! From what I know this is a 35 year old sign. I really love the colors. Not sure I'm going to use it for anything with this logo, but it's still nice.

Selected Concepts

Concept 1:

a5c501c7

I liked the C, S and 'Stables' the most from this.

Concept 2:

77ea3979

I really loved the C and the a at the beginning for this one. None of my 'stables' matched it, so I'm thinking of doing it in a roman text.

Concept 3:

babbbce7

The first two are more slanted scripts, so I tried to do some upright scripts and came up with this. I'm liking the C, r, S, and 'stables' again for this one.

Using tracing paper I explored the concepts further. These are in order of progression. I think I like where they're going, but at this point, I'd like to start working in vector to be able to tweak more quickly the smaller things that need to be tweaked. Please feel free to critique anything and everything!
