Calligraphy Practice

I have always loved beautiful writing and have been practicing calligraphy for about a year. At the moment, I am having a bit of a style crisis, desiring inspiration rather than imitation.

I heard a quote the other day that captured what I'm hoping to do: "Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

First attempt at shapes...

This is a very basic alphabet... not really thinking of style, just focused on consistency in size, spacing, and angle.

Still imitating... but nonetheless enjoying doing a taller, narrower version of the alphabet Molly showed us on the video.

I've never done a wider alphabet. My version is a bit sloppy, but quite fun.

Doing a wider alphabet makes me think of the movement in letters... like they are dancing from one shape to the next.

Next up, an Emily Dickinson quote. I kept thinking of ballerinas throwing their heads back,  giving the allusion of abandon all the while in complete control. I'd love to capture that feeling.
