I recently visited Napa Valley and San Francisco this past summer and fell in love with the area. When ever it's snowy here in Michigan, I take a mental vacation to the beautiful places I explored. I'd like to create a type piece that captures the feel of CA to add to my gallery collection of photos from the trip. I plan on handlettering California Dreamin', and eventually various locations in Napa Valley (Napa, Yountville, Calistoga, St. Helena), Sonoma Valley (Sonoma, Geurneville, Healdsberg), and San Francisco (The Mission, Telegraph Hill, Chinatown, etc).
First Draft (it's still really rough, but a good start):
As a designer, I'm a big fan of type, and love that handmade is becoming a growing trend. I've tried my hand at hand lettering, and I would like to become more efficent at it and pick up any tips or tricks to make the process a little easier. Below is my most recent completed piece, which will be used as a logo for a nightclub.
