Cairo Scouting

I recently was scouting in Cairo for a short film and in the course of taking photographs I got a bit carried away and left with images from the location and the people that live there that I wanted to refine a bit. Still want to learn how to refine people's faces, for example smoothing over some of the imperfections, while keeping it real. Also would like to play with VSCO when I can afford one of their film packages. Enjoy:

Photo #1: Went to black and white, added a yellow filter with some grain. Basic contrast and exposure adjustements as well.

Photo #2: Converted into black and white, punched up the contrast, added a little grain. Still not happy with the overexposed sky but not sure what I can do about that.

Photo #3: Originally shot in black and white, I made some basic contrast & exposure adjustments while bumping the blacks and whites to increase some range in the image.  This is probably my favorite of the bunch. I really like the depth of the image and I think these tiny refinements increases that depth and gives the subject his own private space in a rather claustrophic room.
