Building your idea into a business

As a first generation entrepreneur in a developing economy (I live and work in Cape Town, South Africa), there were many reasons not to start a business. Funding challenges, dire economic forecasts and no shortage of experts telling me why it would'nt work was par for the course.

The choice, take these "realities"to heart or gather as much information and tools as I could to find out for myself. I chose the latter, resulting in a mixed bag of near misses and successes with LOTS of lessons learnt and an interesting library of resources and experiences, some of which I will share in this class.

I am a professional problem solver, a management consultant who project manages, trains, speaks and coaches. I have over the past few years, bought, managed and sold a laundromat, construction supply company and an online liquor store in addition to my consulting engagements and projects.

In this class, I will introduce, explain and walk you through the process of building your idea into a business using one of the most versatile conceptual mapping tools I have come across - Osterwalder's Business Model Canvas.

Your assigment will be to apply the understanding gained from the class by interacting with Osterwalder's Business Model Canvas and the mapping your business idea across it to assess feasibilty, resource requirements and market potentialI look forward to walking this road with you and learning how you have used this tool to build your dreams as I have.
