Building a new downtown Austin

Cover photo by atmtx

Not unlike other cities, Austin has tried to revitalize their downtown area with more residential and retail development, and they have been successful. The skyline of the city has changed drastically in the last 10 years, but so has the street level. Where there was once only 6th street, there are now at least three new "entertainment districts" and thousands of condo/apartment units.

I'd like to visually show the difference, from above and from street level. I'd like to show how the economics have changed: how much has the city gained in property taxes? How has this affected business owners?

I don't have annimation skills or software, so I'll have to work more with historical photos. I'll need data on when bulidings were built, tax roll information, etc.
