Hello everyone!

I decided to tackle the word BREATHE for my project. I wanted to keep it very simple since I'm so new to the hand-lettering world. I started sketching out the word before I found a style that I liked.

I quickly went over it in Illustrator. It didn't turn out the best looking, but that didn't deter me.

Next, I began fixing the spacing, weight, and angles. I initially wanted it to look a bit like paper cut outs.

I tend to work better in color, so as I did this I began playing with the color. I liked the idea of it being a bit muted and calming. Blues, greys, and creams are always the colors that I got to, to convey that.

I played with the idea of adding orange as a complimentary color to the blue and making the blue a little more green. I also added a drop shadow and a grainy paper texture to make it look a bit more 3D.

In the end, I reverted back to the cream and grey/blue. There's something about how simple it is that I really liked. I'll probably be making a few more and I'll add those to this project when I finish them.

Let me know what you all think and what I can improve on.
