Brainstorm Your Story - Sierra Grayson

First Brainstormed Paragraph:

Serena is a receptionist in the sleepy little town of Faulkland, DE. After graduating from college, she needed a steady income job that would help pay her and her new husband’s bills. She gets a job as a receptionist, but she’s always dreamed of trying to follow her heart’s desire to become a writer. Serena has to balance writing manuscripts late into the night, spending little to no quality time with her husband, publishers from Hell, and much more on her journey to becoming successful.

 

First Rewritten Sentence (Plot):

Serena graduates from college with a degree in English and struggles to get a job in a creative field so she takes a receptionist job in an office to pay her bills.

 

Second Rewritten Sentence (Story):

Serena’s degree feels useless in the real world; she thinks she’ll never be able to earn an income off of creative passions, and those thoughts seem to stifle her ability to be creative in the first place.

 

New Brainstormed Paragraph:

Serena graduates from college with a degree in English which feels useless in the real world around her. She struggles to get a job in a creative field so she becomes discouraged thinking she’ll never be able to earn an income off of creative passions. In order to earn the income that she and her husband need in order to pay their bills, Serena takes a job as a receptionist in an office. Her thoughts about the hard-to-enter creative world and the rigidity of her new job seem to stifle her ability to be creative in the first place, forcing her to make a decision between being secure and being motivated.
