So, a few confessions. I don't own a printer so I made an 8x10 grid to overlay the image and then made an 8x10 inch grid on my paper. I may or may not have used a sketchbook for this. Lastly, being new to charcoal and art in general, I bought the cheap charcoal set that you find at Wal-Mart so I didn't have the vine charcoal.
I realize now though that I should not have drawn the grid lines inside the drawing, and that I should have just kept them as dots outside the drawing. When I was done with the outline, erasing all the grid lines was a little tedious and could have been avoided. Nevertheless, I think it came out pretty good and I'm happy with the instructions you've given!
