Blue & White Porcelain Roses

Blue & White Porcelain Roses - student project

I am obsessed with blue and white porcelain teacups/vases/prettymuch everything and thought it would be fun to design my own pattern. I also really love roses and thought it would be fun to marry the two. I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to do in my head so I was kind of lazy about the moodboard. Welp, here it is:

I had an absolute blast painting with watercolor. My set is from about 1 million years ago - I primarily work in gouache and acrylic, so this was a good challenge and really fun. I hope to do much more of this in the future.

I scanned them and rearranged them all in illustrator and came up with the original blue and white design, which I am pretty happy with:

I was so happy with it that I was just going to call it a day, but decided what the hell, I'll see what some color swaps look like. I'm glad I did!!!

My favorite of all the remixes is this really inky pattern, which I might have printed on fabric and made into a dress:

Bonnie, thank you so much for teaching this class. This was inspiring and an absolute blast. I had no idea how to use illustrator before I signed up for your pattern design classes. This has changed my life - thank you from the bottom of my heart!
