Blithe Bitters - student project

My coworkers, Alex and Jerry, are experimenting with making several different flavors of bitters. They came up with the name "Blithe Bitters" and the plan is to create a two-way face drawing: one way he looks happy and the other way he is making a bitter face. Here are some examples, many of which are Japanese "Joje-e" drawings.

I did a few sketches and then reviewed with the guys.

They liked the dude on the right the most, and as we talked about it more, we decided it would be reeeaaally cool if he looked like their faces, and that the guy on the right when angry already kinda looked like Jerry. Here's what they look like as a reference point:

I wanted to play around with a couple key characteristics...for Jerry, the beaker face and scarf. And for Alex, the handlebar and fedora. I haven't found a way to get the glasses in without them showing up for Jerry too, so had to abandon that. Here's where I'm at so far. Need to work on getting this integrated into the label still.
