Birds, butterflies and flowers, oh my!

Birds, butterflies and flowers, oh my! - student project

I absolutely LOVED this class. Drank it up yesterday evening in one sitting, and immediately set to work this morning. Spent the entire morning and afternoon (still in pjs) and forgot to eat anything - that’s how involved I got. I love the style, subject matter, gouache (love this medium! Have been obsessed for a while now), and loved seeing an inspiring, successful artist like Kate share her beautiful work! Birds, butterflies and flowers, oh my! - image 1 - student projectBirds, butterflies and flowers, oh my! - image 2 - student projectBirds, butterflies and flowers, oh my! - image 3 - student projectBirds, butterflies and flowers, oh my! - image 4 - student project

As much as I LOVED the process and even the results - I have to say, I’m a little frustrated with the way the colors came out. I want it to pop and have a wow factor - but find that very difficult to create. Perhaps some feedback on anything I can do to tweak?

Also, really loved the way Kate moves away from realism and has so much fun with patterns and colors in her work. I found myself going back again and again to safe and predictable colors. Although I’m okay with that, I think it has something to do with my overall satisfaction of the final piece. Any thoughts?
