Bioshock

The finished finished product.

The "finished" product...

Below are all the "finished" versions of the icons, in final position. Looking at this it's clear that some rows of icons work better together than others, plus I need to do a general pass over everything to ensure there are consistent sizes and borders. Once that's all done, I'm going to apply a texture over the whole thing just to add a bit of grit & vintage.

For the finished product I'm thinking of turning the icons into an iPhone wallpaper so they can have some life beyond this class.

Now on to my first icon!

I decide to start with "Salts", since this is going to be fairly easy geometrically. For reference, the original Salts vial is below...

Choosing a color palette...

My color palette is going to be largely dictated by the content I'm representing, since I want a semi-realistic depiction of the in-game elements. I still want to put a bit of a twist on the colors though so they're not just exact copies.

Below are a couple of screenshots from the game for anyone that hasn't had the pleasure of playing it...

Below are some initial attempts at trying to simplify the game's main elements whilst making sure the icons are still recognizable.

Looking around for some inspiration, I like that the icons below are made up of simple shapes and lines whilst still retaining a bit of detail.

I also like the idea of utilizing a heavy keyline for boldness...

..and adding a bit of texture just to lift the illustrations off the screen

Gonna make some Bioshock Infinite icons because it's an awesome game, and I'm inspired by awesome things.
