Big Blooms by Gwen DeGroff

This class has been so inspirational to me and I was really excited to dive into this project!  I'm a graphic designer from Maryland, and we're finally seeing the beginning signs of spring.  My inspiration for this project came from photos of big beautiful blooms that I'm dreaming of seeing after this winter passes!

My mood board is a collection of my favorite things: A photo of roses from a trip to England last summer, art hanging in my living room, and a mug that I painted myself.

I made my sketches with my Wacom tablet as well as pen/paper.  I really enjoyed using the tablet to get the detailed arrangement of the petals.  Not all of my sketches made it into the final design.

This photo is bursting with spring color and I was so drawn to it.  I knew it would make a beautiful color palette.

Time to color my sketches and create the motifs!  I really enjoyed coloring and finding nice gradients to add dimension to my florals.

And finally... Big Blooms, the final pattern!  I made a "hero" pattern as well as 3 supporting patterns.  I really wanted to try the different repeats, and to pull in some different colors.  I love the chevron pattern on my mood board and wanted to incorporate that into the collection.  I also made a second colorway .

Thanks for taking the time to look at my project!  I'd love to hear any feedback!
