Better Body. Better Mind. Better Life.

About 5 years ago, I started noticing a considerable amount of health issues. I had unexplainable pains, lethargy, depression, and a number of other things. I was diagnosed with endometriosis and had surgery to remove the excess tissues. While some of my problems went away after that, others emerged. I became more and more interested in my health and wanting to find out what is best for me. In early 2012, I decided to go to the doctor my mother had been seeing for her cholesterol issues, and I found out that I have insulin resistance and am at higher risk for diabetes and heart disease. I met with the dietitian at the same clinic and he has been working with me to figure out the right path for me to take. While I have a wealth of knowledge, I have been struggling putting it into practice. The more I have been putting effort into taking care of my body, the better I feel about myself and the more my life has improved overall. My goals are to make these changes stick and to overcome one of the biggest obstacles I have ever faced!

Update: 1/14/2013

I have been a Fitocracy member since Fall of 2012, currently level 6, and I joined the Get Fit in the New Year...and For Life group. These are the goals I posted in the group:

My main goal is to get my insulin resistance and cholesterol levels under control. In addition, I want to build strength, look more toned, and feel better about myself.

1.) Eat 30g of carbs per meal and 15g of carbs per snack
2.) Eat 7g of protein per 15g of carbs, and get a minimum of 60g of protein/day
3.) Become a "weekday veg": Eat vegetarian 5 days a week, with the option to eat meat on the weekend.
Do cardio 4x per week for at least 40 minutes
5.) Do resistance training at least 2x per week, 6-8 exercise for 2-3 sets of 12-15 repetitions.
6.) Run my first 5K on or before my 25th birthday (June 29, 2013)
