Beginning to Bounce

April 27, 2016

I love creative lettering so finding this class was a huge treat!

It may seem strange that my project is about Christmas since it is spring but yesterday we had a snowstorm. With everything looking very wintery it seemed the perfect opportunity to practice bounce letters and get a head start on some holiday cards.

Sample from practice paper - as you can see I was initially having some difficulties working out how much to bounce the word Christmas. I used my own handwriting as the base style and raised or lowered letters until I was happy with the effect. I found it very easy to get carried away with the dips.

Black-capped chickadees are a fun bouncy-like bird so it seemed a good choice to complement the lettering. The bird and holly were painted in watercolor and when that was dry I added the details with a micron pen. The lettering was written with a metallic paint pen in a copper-rose color.

This was a lot of fun to do and I am looking forward to adding bounciness in other projects.

Thanks for a great class Teela!
