Before and After: From Unfocused to Purposeful

MY UNEXPECTED JOURNEY - FROM UNFOCUSED TO PURPOSEFUL

I've tested, and continue to test, the class activities with friends, coleagues and clients - and myself! This means that I too have been affected by the activities in this class. I can now spot a distraction far sooner, saving me time and energy every single day. Having a clear mission has also given me the confidence to experiment more and to be more aggressive with guarding my time.

OPTIONAL PROJECT WORK

MY DECISION TREE

First I used the print ready PDF and had my local copy place scale it to fit 11 x 17 color paper. I made two copies (just in case!), one on mint and one on neon pink. These cost me 50 cents each.

ACTIVITY CARDS

I used the cards I created from the class activities to fill in my Flow Chart. I found that my definition of success was a little too broad to inspire me to take action - so I took a few minutes to better articulate my definition. I repurposed an IKEA frame and used a small tip chalk marker to write with.

IN MY SPACE

I've hung my Decision Tree in a spot that catches my eye daily. I've used a tack and string to hang it so I can easily update it.

MY FIRST TEST RUN

Right after filling out my Decision Tree, even before I hung it up, I saw a posting for a free writing class that tickled my fancy. I nearly went out immediately to check it out. Thankfully I paused and followed this potential opportunity down through my Decision Tree. It turns out the writing class was not a good fit for my top strengths and it absolutely takes away time from my BIG (important) milestones. I've set a Google alert for the next round of free classes at that venue, and maybe next time they are offered I will be ready for a project based vacation. But right now I have some milestones to complete! The verdict - the writing class would have been a distraction NOT an opportunity. The Decision Tree wins this round!
