Beer, pencils, happiness!

Beer, pencils, happiness! - student project

Hi! I'm designing a logo for a subject we all love. Beer! Actually it's a show about beer. It's called The Mash, and we are working on the first few episodes now.

I have been doing graphics and media content for many years now, but I have never really dabbled with hand drawn art. I'm really excited to try this thing out.

Here's my start to this thing. The mood board!

My sketch book is ready, and pencils are sharp. I've been drawing and sketching in the days leading up to the start of class. Thanks to some youtubery and design books and magazines, I am actually really happy with some of my sketches!

May 16, 2013 - Time to start designing some concept sketches of my primary logo. I am thinking final media will be a beer label. But for now, I just need to get drawing the Mash in different ways.

May 17, 2013 - Thanks for all the likes, and the comments! Your encouragement is definetly pushing me to keep motivated and working on this craft. There's been a lot of not so hot drawings coming out of my pencils but every now and then a decent one pops out.

Todays top drawings!

I would like to work on the Top design and the Black background style. They may not be a every day logo for the show, but it has a kind of feels like a fun pint glass design.

Let me know what you think!

May 20, 2013 - I'm moving forward with the actual label side of this project. Tonights drawings will begin to reflect a more refined label feel. I am pretty excited to play with some of these ideas further.

May 26, 2013 - My inlaws have been staying with us for the past week. I have tried to keep drawing every day. But my efforts were split this week. I have a new mood board (sort of) but this time it's my sketches collected together to get an idea of my label.

I want to make a border around the label like the one on the left. The Mash logo will likely be similar to those shown. Personally I have a hard time making an interesting M. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! "A show about beer" will be down in the bottom right of the label. And then sort of like a foil sticker stuck to the corner I want to have a "All New" emblem floating on top of the label.

I'm looking forward to the peer review. Hope to get some great feed back from other students. And always, please leave comments, or likes if you have anything I might improve upon or that you are digging!

May 26, 2013 Part 2 - First attempts at digitizing my art!

May 27, 2013 - I have been really excited with the prospects of using hand drawn art to create custom digital graphics. This is going to open up a whole new avenue for my projects in the future! I went and tweaked the picture from yesterday, and then threw it over a picture I took a few years back. I'm pretty happy with how this is evolving!

June 4, 2013 - It's been busy. Oh so busy. I have been stuck with my Mash lettering too. It's rough. Here is an update of a couple ideas I was just playing with. I am going to keep hammering away on this one. The Mash logo will spill out of my pen one of these times.

I like the little diamond with lightning bolts (but not sure if it fits the show) and I like the M below that. A smaller A with the S falling under it seems to be appealing to me. We'll see where things go from here.

June 10, 2013

A family emergency has pretty well taken up my last many days. Yesterday and today were my first chance to begin playing with this again. I have a Mash that I like. I digitized it and cleaned up the lines in Illustrator.

The colors are simply for contrast. This is just to see how "The Mash" looks next to the "Show about beer".
