Back in high school I was super active: captain of the softball team, surfer, dancer. I was outside tons year round and loved it. You can kind of do that when you grow up in LA. However, I got injured and then went to college and I gained weight and stopped being so active. And then I went to grad school and now I ride a desk-- not so active at all. And I miss it. Mostly I miss feeling like my body is capable and strong. I miss engaging with nature. And that's hard to do in NYC.
For the last few years I've been trying to lose weight and gain muscle, and some attempts have worked, others not so much. This class is part of my process of creating the life I want to live in NYC; an active, happier life. I want to be able to play frisbee in the part with friends or go rock climbing at the gym and not feel slow and inadequate. I'd like to be able to either take up trapeze again or actually really get into roller derby without feeling like I'm wasting the time at training becasue I get winded and I can't keep up.
Ideally I'd like to be able to do the Tough Mudder this October.
Lose 20 lbs (or just fit into at least a size 8 or 6)
Define muscles (particularly arms and back)
Do 5 pull ups
Sustain a handstand
Complete a Tough Mudder
Plan of Action
2-3 days of weight training a week
Weekly yoga class to stretch and center and keep a good headspace
Sleep- I need to get at least 7 hours a night
Eat: lean proteins, lots of veggies, seasonal and local if possible. Learn how to cook in smaller batches so i don't get bored.
Organize friends to do monthly hikes outside the city or any other sort of outdoor activity that is social
