Baby Turtle

Hi, guys!
So I'm ready to start my project. I want to design a baby turtle mark, so I did some research, found these lovely pictures and made my mood board with them:

I really, really love pictures 1 and 5, although I don't think they have the best silhouettes. My favourite image by now is number 4: the turtle is like swimming, twisting...I can see it! Very dynamic. Also I think picture 3 can make a perfect mark with negative space, because the front leg is a good object for that. Probably I will try it too. Any advice?

I started working on my sketches, made lots of them as you can see. At first they were very detailed and little by little I started removing things. I have to recognize it has been a difficult exercise for me, I'm not used to that minimalistic result.

Here you can see part of the process:

I'm not sure the picture I chose is really working. Back flippers turn out a little weird when I sketch them, my turtle seems to be dancing or something. So I decided to delete them and I really like the result, although I don't know if I'm cheating because It won't be exactly my photo! What do you think?

My baby turtle is now in illustrator!

I think I'm pretty close now with colors:

And that's all! I'm still refining it...

DAY 100

I've finally finished! It's been tough, I took more time than I expected. I have to say that the grid, even without knowing quite well how it works, helped me a lot to refine it.

As you can see, I changed the colors. For this last one I also added a bit of shade and texture. I hope you like it!
