I found a single snapshot, and will use it just to run through the class to bumble along and try to grasp the clever techniques. Always fun to learn some new approaches within Photoshop!
Okay, so this is hideous, I know! I wanted to experiment with the techniques, so drew some quick shapes with the brush tool in PS to experiment with working with different layers. I used layers that were just Bucket-tool-filled to make sure I was understanding the concept. Now that I think I understand the steps, I'll go back and work with some more refined fills and see what I come up with
Here's what I ended up with. Ava's mom LOVEs pink! I learned that the more complex/busy the fill, less detail outlines better. I used PS Sketch on my iPad to draw initial outline, using the photo as a lower layer. Next time, I'll try Jenny's approach with pencil/paper, as I think it would be easier for me to be more decisive about the areas of value. Additionally, I'll take more time and work more carefully.
