Anteater Logo Mark

Having a tough time deciding what animal to work with, I went with my alma mater's mascot, the anteater. Since they definitely are in need of a mascot rebrand for athletics, I gave the anteater a shot.

Research:

I put as many interesting images for the mood board that could offer an athletic feel for the image. Anteaters are not aggressive animals, but they are capable of defending themselves when they are in fear of danger by possible predators. They are a relative of the bear, but are primarily insectivores, hence the lengthy tongue. But including a tounge in the image doesn't give a sporty look to the mascot, so I decided to highlight the anteater's claws.

So I went the following two images to give direction to the logo, most influenced by the first image:

Sketches:

I went ahead and sketched the shape that I preferred, naturally visualizing a circular form coming forward towards the last sketch.

Vector:

Following George's instruction, I minimized anchor points and refined the vector layers to form the following images, and played with color palettes (with the alma mater's colors for shiggles =D ).

This was super fun, thanks George for the challenge!

Update: Here is a reworked color palette for my alma mater.
