My name is Andrew Estrada and I am to illustration about 2 years now. I have made art for a long time and it constantly changes. It was challenging to narrow down my influences , however these 3 stood out. As much as I like flat mid century modern work my work does not look like that. I really like Josh Cochran’s work. Bold lines, bright colors and he makes work first on paper than replicates it digitally. I really enjoy Donald Robertson’s playful mixed media approach to art. He works with many different materials however I can see consistency most of the time in his different projects. I love Lisa Congdon’s work. Her work for me is nostalgic, bold, positive messages and she uses many different mediums to express herself, painting, illustration, books, and ceramics as of late.
My Self Inventory
I have a difficult time staying focused. I make work that can be all over the place. I have benefited from classes on skills share especially Tom Froese’s Classes to provide structure. I am a self taught artist. I like paper cut out work with bold colors, kind of wonky and sometimes humorous work. I take inspiration from foreign films Mexican and French cinema, fashion, skateboarding, surfing, and design. I am also trying to build a community that I can get feedback from and discuss ideas with.
My plan is to illustrate the alphabet of fashion. I am in the process of selecting nouns and verbs. This is what I have so far. Feedback is appreciated ( kind of)
