Last holiday season, I purchased a hank of Malabrigo Rasta in Pagoda. For roughly 8 months, this purchase has haunted me. At the time, I was looking for a chunky merino in a cool/true red. In an online yarn auction, this is how Pagoda appeared. As you can see, this is not the case. While it is lovely, merlot is definitely not a blue-toned red. And so it sat in my stash for eight months.
While feeling particularly poorly about this untouched skein, I stumbled across this course and the yarn's destiny was obvious. As rya knots, the Rasta hangs almost like dreadlocks, which seems uncannily appropriate considering the name. This allows the black (another color I never use) to peek through without being heavy.
As my main concern was working with uncomfortable colors and unfamiliar fibers (all the other yarn was purchased specifically for this project at a big box craft store), I deviated very little from the filmed design. Luckily, I think it came out quite well, even if I can't seem to get the bottom trimmed up straight!
