Air-Bound Children (ABC Book)

& hello again!

I have been playing with colour combos for a couple of days and here come my three versions of it! I'm aware they are not very experiemental, but I'm after a clean cut simple style that could be apleanig to a kid, so refrained from going crazy with the bending modes...

Can't quite decide which coloring I like best, everytime I look at it I pick a diffrent version! What do you guys think?

Option 1: Monochrome

Option 2: Pastels

Option 3: Bright tones

Thanks!!

Hi again!

Yet another addition to Phase 2: having safely scanned the line work, I decided to give a go at monochrome indian ink colouring. I am quite pleased with the results as I think the brush-stoke texture adds a bit more dimention to the illustration... Now onto adding some colour to it!

Hi there!

Working on the hand made phase.

Just done the ink line work and now cosidering whether colouring it in black and white with indian ink or jumping straight to the digital colouring... Kind of scared it will be too much texture if I add the ink beforehand but still tempted to do it... Any ideas?

Thanks! :)

Ps: Thanks again Laura for your feedback! It did turn out to be very valuable! ;)

Hello there! Adriana here. From Barcelona, based in Stockholm. Illustrator, surface designer, notebook collector and coffee drinker. Not that that's relevant at all, but there it is, for contextualisation's sake.

So I've decided to use this class as a starting point for a personal project that I've had in mind for quite some time, an ABC book. The project is more of a self-improvement exercise than anything else, as with it I hope to better my hand lettering and text and image integration skills.

Inspired by my love for thrifted old photographs and in the spirit of the not-so-childlike work of Edward Gorey and Lemony Snicket, I would like to create the "Ultimate Compendium of Air-Bound Children" or something of the sort. Basically, 28 letters with 28 children with sky-high dreams. Amongst them: Gliding Gilda, Levitating Leah and Caped Carl, which whom I shall begin.

Here are some of the reference images I've collected for the first illustration, but the inspiration board for the full project is over at Pinterest

And here are the initial super-quick sketches for Carl:

I think I will go with the first option (top left corner)... a superhero kind of kid should have a strong steady C, right?!

So that's that for the moment. Thanks for reading (and any comment shall be welcomed! ;)
