ANALYZING IDENTITIES: Which identities are mentioned and how to they relate to each other?

ANALYZING IDENTITIES: Which identities are mentioned and how to they relate to each other? - student project

For this project, I decided to use the Feuilleton section (features) of the German newspaper "Die Zeit".

My initial question was a different one. I wanted to explore the correlation between identities and time.
My hypothesis was that the number of personal-related identities (such as occupation or sexual orientation) would increase with time.

However, it was not possible to provide an accurate correlation of the identities with time because some articles did not include any years and with those that did, there was no real meaning behind it.

What I did come to realise was that it was possible to separate the data into 3 main categories:

1. Self-determined identities

2. Pre-determined identities

3. Circumstantial or innate identities or those formed through choice

The project made me think more deeply about identities in general and to question how they originated. The 3rd category is especially interesting, because it is debatable how these identities came to be.
