Wow... I did some leaving of feedback today, and I feel like a major amateur! When I first started my warm up I was kind of disappointed... it looked more like doodling to me than anything artistic. But, by the time I got to the one 3/4ths of the way down, heavily inspired by the Strong Fabric logo on my mood board, I was pretty satisfied! I have no idea where to go from here, but I feel a little more confident! I'm not really an artist of any kind, and most of my day is spent cleaning a variety of things and people, but this has been a fun way to wind down at the end of my day!

I would really love feedback. I've never taken an art class before and have no idea what I'm doing. Thanks! :)

Hi everyone! My final project will be a framed print in my daughter's room. When I started thinking about what quote or phrase I wanted to write, it became a lot more difficult when I thought about my girl. I've experienced some loss of life recently, and so I wanted the phrase to be something that, if I was gone tomorrow, she could grow up still knowing the main message I wanted to teach her as her mother.

So, no pressure.

My first inclination as a parent is to protect my kid, obviously. At her age (6 months), she can't do anything for herself, so it's all me. We are starting the process of weaning from nursing, and for the first time ever, she is doing something for herself (eating, sort of, it's actually closer to feeding the dog)... and then I decided THAT'S what I wanted to tell her. That she can do things on her own, and she won't always need me or her dad to do it for her. Life is short, life is precious, but you have to get out there and do. Go serve, be brave, take chances, something along those lines.

So, I came across this quote by William Shedd: "A ship is safe in harbor, but that's not why ships are built."

Here's my word list:

And my mood board:

I am super drawn to the "Strong Fabric" logo, the almost zentangle-like tattoo, the arrow on the rocks, and the rope/wood combo. I have NO idea how to combine this into a print, so I'm really looking forward to what this turns into! I am normally the exact kind of letterer Mary Kate was talking about in the video--I just sit down, doodle a little, and there it is. No concept at all, so I'm really interested in how adding in the foundation of the creative process will help me.

Would love any feedback! Thanks and happy Friday!
