For this project I'm using a quote from my all time favorite movie - The Thin Man. Nick Charles, world class drinker, says, "The important thing is the rhythm. Always have rhythm in your shaking. Now a Manhattan you shake to fox-trot time, a Bronx to two-step time, a dry martini you always shake to waltz time." I think of this every time I mix a drink, so I wanted to draw it up once I knew how to do it.
I'm only using the last bit of the quote.
This is my first doodle.
Looking at this I like the layout but I want to make it more art deco, and give it a crisp cool feeling, like a martini.
I reworked the type and drew up some of the botanical ingredients in gin to arrange as a background for the shaker.
Cleaned it up, vectorized it. A few more tweaks and it's ready for texture in photoshop.
After a bit of color work and a lot of playing with texture it's done. (I used Kyle T Webster's brushes for that. Next time I'll try scanning textures in.) I'm very happy with it. I learned SO much in this class. Without it I couldn't have taken my idea into reality. Thank you so much, Mary!
