A Request for Your Wisdom

Thanks Patricia and Jessica for your feedback! Here's my updated email:

Dear Claire,

It was great to meet you during PPNYC's Day of Action in January. I also joined you in Senator Espaillat's office to advocate for the Reproductive Health Act. It was only my second time lobbying, but it was a fun and memorable day!

I'm reaching out because I'd love to learn more about your work as a community organizer and social worker. I had a chance to check out your LinkedIn profile and learn a bit about your career path. Your extensive knowledge of social justice issues and skill set as a facilitator of community trainings are qualifications that I’d like to cultivate.

It would be rewarding to glean insight from your experiences. Are you available soon for a 15 minute call, or would you be open to receiving some of my questions by email? I know you're busy empowering our community, so any feedback will be highly appreciated.

Thanks for your time! Looking forward to your Reproductive Justice 101 training in July.

Best wishes,

Noli Ann Vega

Hi, I'm interested in connecting with some people I've briefly met through past volunteer work to ask for career advice. They work in the field I want to pursue, in positions that interest me. Here's a draft of my email:

Dear Claire,

I had the pleasure of meeting you at PPNYC's Day of Action in January. I even got to join you in Senator Espaillat's office to advocate for the Reproductive Health Act. It was only my second time lobbying, but you and your team made it a memorable day!
I'm reaching out because I'd like my next career steps to be in the reproductive justice movement, and I'd love to learn more about your work as a community organizer and social worker in this realm. I had a chance to check out your LinkedIn profile and learn a bit about your career path.  Your extensive knowledge of social justice issues and skill set as a facilitator of community trainings are qualifications that I aspire to cultivate.
I hope you'll have some time to look over my questions and write back. It would be rewarding to glean insight from your experiences.
  • In your current position at PPNYC, what is your favorite part of the job?
  • Looking back, what were some of the key experiences that prepared you for this role?
  • You often connect with diverse groups in training settings. What are some of the essential skills you use in this work?
  • In your view, what roles or areas of expertise are most needed to move reproductive justice forward in our city?
  • And last but not least: How did you gain clarity about your career goals and decide on the best path for you?
Thanks very much for your time! I'm looking forward to joining your Reproductive Justice 101 training in July.
With appreciation,
Noli Vega
