A Portrait of Myself and my Daughter

A Portrait of Myself and my Daughter - student project

This was my first time digitally painting in photoshop from a photo, using your techniques. I was really happy with the result; I had it printed on canvas and it hangs in my house to remind me of this tender moment. My daughter was hospitalized as an infant, and this was the first time I got to hold her upright after her ventilator was taken off. She is doing amazing well now and is 3 years old!

Here is a shot of my original photo:

Here is the photo edited to bring out the values and colors I would be using with the eyedropper. The edited photos make our skin look really weird, but I wanted to have yellows and pinks and reds for my shading in the painting. The top and the bottom left pictures are photos and the bottom right was the beginning stages of my digital painting.

It came a long way from there to the finished painting. I zoomed in and worked on each small area to refine and add detail and smooth out the tones with brushes. I added a dark background and some texture to the back of the chair behind me. I have a tear running down my face in this photo, and I wanted to include it but not make it too artificial-looking. Here is my finished painting:

And here it is after printing it on canvas to hang in my home:
