A Place to Make- A Space to Collaborate, Invent and Play

Week One- Thoughts on Opening up The Hive at Meandering Design

Week Two- Create a Unique Brand Tag for The Hive at Meandering Design

A couple of years ago, for the first time in my life I found myself unemployed during a recession. While I searched for work and took temp jobs I kept myself busy sewing. Except, I was lonely. Then I went to a Crave event in Chicago and met all of these fabulous female entrepreneurs and when I first stood up I introduced myself as unemployed, then I introduced myself and said I sew, then next time I had introduced myself as Meandering Design and then I opened a shop.

Except, I was still lonely sewing at home (keep in mind I’m an only child and introvert!). There are some amazing coworking spaces in Chicago, but I wanted a place I could bring my sewing machine. That is when my dream was born and I realized I wanted to open up a maker coworking space. A place people could hammer, sew, cut glass, make jewelry all while collaborating and having access to educational classes. There will also be pop up shops for people to showcase the goods they have been making.

I know that some where in Chicago that a space waits for me to transform it to an inviting place people want to create in.

I created a Mighty Life List and it really does help motivate you to start crossing things off. I submitted some goals to Go Mighty and one of them was about opening a creative coworking space.  I wrote about creating a craft coworking space a year ago, but I have been too intimidated to do it! I have been putting it out in the universe, but now it is time to start making it happen.

I was inspired by MakeShift Society in Sanfrancisco. Here's a look at the moodboard for their space.

I pin things that I see and represent what I would like Makers Hub to look like. I really want an old Ford pick up truck!

At one point I even found a space in my neighborhood but I was not ready financially or emotionally, but now I am ready and excited to create a plan and a network to make this a possibility.
