A Lefty's Beginnings

I've only just started doing calligraphy with pointed pen a couple months ago. When I was younger, I would dabble with italic markers and nibs from time to time, but never very seriously. I'm really excited to be taking this class, as my first big project will be doing envelopes for a dear friend's wedding as a gift.

I really enjoyed working with the watercolors, but some aspects were more difficult, such as regulating the shades of colors in the letters. It also takes a long time to dry, which can be difficult for me since I'm left-handed. Despite the challenges, I found this medium to be inspiring.

This quote by Oscar Wilde is one of my favorites (but really any quote by Oscar Wilde makes me happy--the wit!). I would do the color combinations differently if I were to do this quote again, but I'm pretty happy with how 'stars' turned out.

You can never go wrong with Shakespeare: from Macbeth, Act 4, Scene 1

Let me know if you have any advice for me. I want this style to be more playful, and I don't think it's quite there yet. The lowercase 'd' makes me want to pull my hair out.
