3 Focal Prints Surface Pattern Workshop

Hello,

I'm Makiko Orser. I'm a graphic artist, illustrator, photographer for past 16 years.

I love surface design because I can use all the skills I've already have and create freely with my own art directions. I'm open to any feedback, thank you!

Here are 3 directions I'm thinking of...

WORDS: mist, fog, ferns, mushrooms, woods, hidden

I love every shapes of mushrooms and ferns. It's almost unreal to me how curls up so beautifully.

WORDS: poison, apple, magic, forest, cottage, beauty, mirror

My daughter is doing a school play, "Snow White." She is going to play evil queen! I am planning to design a poster for it. So I thought it will help me to warm up with this project.

WORDS: love, play, points, spin, racquet, court, t, net, hit, win

This is completely different direction, it's from my love for tennis. I've played in high school and college, and recently back to play regularly. It's fun, a lot to think about, a lot of good quotes that even helps life's lessons. One of the thing about tennis for design is.. not much out there. I went to see US Open past year, and even in the gift shops, it was very limited visually. This might be a bit challenge since tennis balls are almost always yellow. But I would like to create something inspiring and fun.

These are patterns for Snow White theme. I can create many sub patterns, but it is difficult for me to make a main pattern. Is there any advice for it??

Just for fun, here is a poster I made for Snow White.

Here is the first project. Not from workshop. I will leave this here for now.

I am excited to share my first collection, "Hello Morning!" I really enjoy making patterns and learning new techniques, but I found quite difficult to make a collection.

My inspiration was from our backyard birds, although they look different. I fantalize those birds and added a few elements to go with it.
