3 Focal Point Prints: Summer Joy, Woodland Mystique, Garden Dreams

Hello everyone!

I'm Malin (27, from Sweden, lives in Amsterdam currently :)) and I have completely fallen in love with Surface Pattern Design since autumn last year. I have always been a big fan of patterns but never realized that it's something you can do and make a career out of - which now is my goal since I found out and fell in love, so I'm really excited to be a part of this workshop!

The three themes I decided on along with moodboards, sketches, illustrated motifs and focal patterns are presented below:

Theme: Swedish Summer
Name of collection: Summer Joy
Descriptive words: Warmth, Joy, Carefree, Sunshine, Idyll, Solstice, Simplicity, Breathe, Fresh, Gathering

This is how my focal pattern for this collection turned out:

And in a second colourway, think I like this one the best :)

Thank you Bonnie for sharing your knowledge in such an amazing way :)

I looked through some photos I've taken on a vacation in Vietnam which inspired me to create a floral pattern with a tropical vibe. The pictures of the palm trees on my moodboard below are taken in Vietnam which is my inspiration from nature, as well as the picture of the Monstera plant, however that picture is taken in a less tropical place: my living room :)

Here are the motifs based of my sketches

With the above motifs I created two different seamless patterns. I actually created a bunch more patterns, it is just so much fun!

Thank you so much for this educative class Bonnie and for being such an inspiration, I can't wait to get started on your next class!
