2 week challenge - Modern Folk / Past challenge Woodland Wimsy

Pattern Challenge #2 - Modern Folk

I think it's been almost a year since I uploaded my Woodland Wimsy pattern, first pattern I ever made! I'm still enjoying pattern making and slowly hope to build up a strong collection in hopes of making this my regular gig, someday...

So, it had been about a month since I had worked on a pattern when this 2 week challenge came along and I thought it would be fun to tackle Folk Art and give it a bit of a modern spin. I also wanted to sketch some people and see what came of it.

This pattern is a little old, a little new, and lots of Netherlands fabulousness. Someday I would love to visit!

The first pattern reminds me very much of my 4-times-great grandmother's style of painting where none of the images are to scale and yet it all works together to create a beautiful scene.

Pattern Challenge #1 - Woodland Whimsy

My youngest daughter celebrated her first birthday in August and I had a ton of fun designing her decorations...which included this very cute deer. I wanted to somehow incorporate the deer into this project, so I chose a woodland theme for the pattern.

I started with the mood board...

I tried to sketch as many things as possible so that I had a variety of objects to work with...

...then played around! I was surprised with the final product, it kind of made itself and there were a few elements that I didn't use and ones I altered. Playing with the colors was so much fun. I could probably manipulate the color over and over again.

The pattern with the grey background is actually the one I made first. I really like them both. So far my family is divided pretty evenly between the color schemes.
