"It was never between you and them anyway." - Mother Teresa

UPDATE V7:  my final vectored project! i had such a hard time with illustrator being that this was my first time using it and overall, not a very smooth process for me or a very smooth end product...but it's something. :)

THANKS to neil for all your work and effort and videos and resources, etc!!

THANKS to all you who commented and "liked" my project!  this was so exciting for me and such a great learning process to learn from all of you and neil!  SPECIAL THANKS to LARA RUSSO for her personal one on one time she spent with me to teach me some ILLUSTRATOR tips/shortcuts! so grateful!

V6 UPDATE: well, i took a shortcut and this is a "live trace" version from illustrator.  it doesn't look much cleaner than my pen version below (lines look wobbly), so i will continue working on my manually traced one as well. in the meantime, here's the live trace version:

UPDATE: working on the vectoring, but i'm completely new to this so it's taking a terribly long time!! just learning illustrator on the fly (by trial and error) and neil's second lecture. coming soon (i hope)! see the sketch i'm vectoring below (V5)! in the meantime, i can't seem to stop sketching!  here's another one i just did in pen..maybe i should've vectored this one instead! i definitely see the lines are a little off-centered though, but nothing illustrator can't resolve apparently.

V5 UPDATE:  think this is the last one for today.  i might be ready to vectorize!  thoughts?

V4 UPDATE:  hmm, need to adjust thickness of letters, but fixed a few other things and filled it in a few minutes after my V3 update.  thoughts?

V3 UPDATE:  here's my third version.  not much different than my second, but definitely an improvement! this time i also used a dotted paper for gridlines as well. any suggestions or comments? i can see how it needs a little help in centering the alignment for sure... and now that i look at it, i'm thinking i might want to only italicize "you & them" and straighten up "between" and "anyway." working on that in next draft!

V2 UPDATE:  here's my second sketch!! which do you like better??

V1 UPDATE: here's my first sketch!!  what do you think? any suggestions?

the phrase i will letter will be this last line from this popular quote of Mother Teresa:

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.  Forgive them anyway.  If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.  If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.  Succeed anyway.  If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.  Be honest and sincere anyway.  What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.  Create anyway.  If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.  The good you do today, will often be forgotten.  Do good anyway.  Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.  Give your best anyway.  In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway. (emphasis mine)

- Mother Teresa

as a follower of Jesus, i find myself struggling to continue to improve in becoming more Christ-like (not in an attempt to be perfect, but just in trying to take on more of the characteristics of Christ by following his example of what it means to love others) while dealing with today's cultural norms of 'getting ahead,' and 'keeping ourselves as #1 priority.'

if someone wrongs us, it is natural to want to forgive, but never forget.  to guard ourselves and never fully trust those who have hurt us, so we are never taken advantage of again.  to have pride in making sure we are never disrespected again - but this is all done at the cost of never fully and freely loving them again.

Forgive them anyway...Be kind anyway...Be honest and sincere anyway...Do good anyway....Give your best anyway.... In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway.

Matthew 22:36-40

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a]38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
