"Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning."

October 20, 2013

I'm a little late to the game, but I'm really looking forward to learning a lot from this class. For my quote, I wanted to pick something that not only inspired me, but will hopefully inspire my friends and family as well. After sifting through Pinterest, I came across a winner when I Googled "inspiring quotes." I decided to go with "Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning," which is taken from Gloria Steinem's original quote: "Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning."

I started to jot down all keywords & tools that reminded me of this quote and a lot of them ended up relating back to sleeping, passion, and New York City.

Before I turn 25, my goal is to move to NYC and land my dream job working for Refinery29, so this quote felt appropriate.  For my mood board, I grabbed some pictures of NYC, outerspace, a cozy looking bed, a calendar (which I believe is the work of one of my favorite designers, Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co.), graffiti and some type.

When we were kids, a common question always was "what do you want to be when you grow up?" Back then the possibilities were endless and I believe that kids draw inspiration from the books they're exposed to. So I thought it would be an interesting concept to incorporate a couple of my favorite children's book authors like Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss into my project.  Both authors had such unqiue, but recognizable styles in their writings and illustrations, which I have always admired.

I'm very excited to start sketching and am looking forward to seeing everyone's projects!
