Beautiful shot. It looks perfectly exposed, so great job on that front. I agree that it's much easier to meter on overcast days, and film stocks such as Fuji Pro 400H (and most 400 speeds, such as Portra 400) can be great for overcast days when there's not a lot of light but also because they tend to have great latitude.Do you exclusively shoot on film? Shooting in harsh light on film can be a bit more of a difficult feat as it's not always as easy to pull back details in highlights or recover in the shadows. I think it often depends a lot on how you want the photos to look. Again, I think going for a stock like Pro 400H or Portra 400 is a good idea because it allows you a bit of wiggle room. There's more detail in the highlights than there are in the shadows for film so exposing for the shadows is likely your best bet. If you print your negatives in the darkroom, it can be even easier to bring back detail in your highlights during this process. If you haven't already explored that avenue, that might be an option for you.For digital, you can be a bit more reckless. Less details in highlights instead of shadows for digital so consider exposing for the highlights and bringing back the shadows in post.Again, you can also use techniques such as backlighting or shadow play to counter harsh lighting, or use reflectors to help even out some of the contrast between the light and dark, if you don't want to embrace the contrast that direct lighting provides.If you found the class useful, it would be amazing if you could drop the class a review please (it really does help other students find the class). Captured this image using the Mamiya RB67 camera with FujiPro 400H film. Opted for even lighting on an overcast day and metered for the shadows. Cloudy days tend to simplify exposure settings, so I went for the straightforward approach, resulting in a clean aesthetic. Working with harsh light remains a more challenging endeavor. Grateful for any tips and insights you can share.
