Music Event Promo Poster Project

Goal::

Using Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign, create an 11”x17” poster for a classical music festival touring in your region

Method::

Begin by brainstorming your design. The client wants a design that is “edgy but classy” because they want to bring in new listeners to classic music but they also don’t want to alienate their older, more established clientele. Which process of idea generation excites you most? Try it! Try all of them! Sketch, doodle, list, mind map, mood board...anything goes! Find a system that works best for you (and remember, the only way to find out which system works best for you is to experiment!)

Create an 11”x17” document in Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign (your choice).

The following is a recommendation for parameters::

A name for your classical music festival (the poster copy I give my students will be on page two if you wish to use that)

A date and time for your festival

A location for your festival and its address/website

Use a variety of idea generating processes to get new ideas and inspiration for this project. Be sure to upload images of your process so we can all grow and learn from each other.

Anything goes with this design! But keep this on your back burner: how can I make this poster more edgy and contemporary to introduce classical music to new listeners but still be “classy” for the traditional classical music fans?

When finished, upload to our Skillshare class and share! The best way to learn is to share and get (and give!) feedback from your peers. I can’t wait to see your creations!
