Hello! :) Welcome to my first Skillshare class!

My name is Vania, I am a medical doctor, but I am also passionate about living a crafty life. That is why I love to knit, to sew and to build things using laser machines and 3D printers. At the moment I am working at a makerspace!

In this class I am going to teach a unique way of knitting… the Portuguese Knitting Style. There are different knitting techniques all around the world. This style of knitting is different from the usual English and Continental styles that most people use.

This technique is ideal for people who suffer from arthritis or carpic tunnel syndrome because the hand movements are slight and small.

The students will learn:

Benefits of knitting using the Portuguese style
How to do the long tail cast on
How to do the knit stitch
How to do the purl stitch
What is the stockinette stitch and the garter stitch
How to bind off
How to read the pattern
How to weave in the ends
How to block the project
How to seam the knitted squares together

Who the class is geared toward?

Complete beginners – with no knitting experience
All knitters that want to learn a different style of knitting. For them, some information given in this class might be repeated. However, the Portuguese knitting technique is different from the English and Continental knitting techniques. So there will always be new knowledge!

Materials:

. Yarn

. Knitting Needles – 4 mm (US 6) needles

. Scissors

. Tapestry needle

. Tape measure

. Pins

. Optional:

- Row counter

- Knitting pin/ pendant

- Knitting gauge ruler

Project Description

In this class we will be doing a project that I call “One square at a time!”

Knit lovely squares. While you knit the squares, you will see how that can be relaxing! When you have multiple squares you can seam them together and build a blanket!

Play with different colors and take pictures of your process!
